So, what is a community market? Brixton Station Road Market is run by the Brixton Market Traders’ Federation Community Interest Company. That means it’s run by traders themselves. It isn’t owned by a private corporation or run by the local authority, which makes it one-of-a-kind. Where we’re at The community and local people are at the heart of all our markets. And now that the Federations is a registered community interest company, any profit we make goes back into Brixton, in one way or another. We’re not here to overcharge traders. We keep our market pitches affordable, so all kinds of traders can help us boost that community feeling. If you want to do your bit, come to our markets, buy from local traders… you can even volunteer. Where we’re going Being the sort of business we are, we’ve got a big social responsibility to hold onto that community spirit. So to keep it going, we’re doing everything we can to make Brixton market an even better place. To create more opportunities for now and in the future. How? We’ll create more job and volunteer opportunities, and help business start-ups get their feet off the ground. We’ll also arrange to do even more work with local charities and community groups – we’re already growing plants and flowers on the street, thanks to Brockwell Community Greenhouses and other locals who got stuck in. In a nutshell, we’re doing everything we can to show people what Brixton has to offer. [read more]

A curated selection of ethical fashion. Brands with integrity. Clothes to keep. The Keep began as a crazy idea, back in early 2012, after I lost my sense of self doing a job I was wholly unsuited to. Frustrated by the poor quality of most things in my wardrobe, and uninspired by high street shops, I began to seek out clothes that had a story behind them. Working as a management consultant by day, I dedicated evenings and weekends to blogging about my fashion finds. During one such hunt I stumbled into an exhibition at Sadler’s Wells, run by the Ethical Fashion Forum, and my path was set. The first step was to quit my job; the second to write a business plan. The vision being a one-stop shop offering a curated selection of the most stylish, yet affordable, ethical fashion. Clothes to keep. In September 2012 The Keep Boutique was born. Since then a number of people have helped to develop my concept, whilst I’ve never veered away from my central mission: To seek out and promote fashion brands with true integrity, whilst carefully curating the selection to ensure style comes first. For me it’s about reigniting an appreciation of quality, craftsmanship and sustainability. Here I hope you’ll find pieces of treasure a plenty, and that you cherish them as much as I do. Reigniting an appreciation of quality, craftsmanship and sustainability. [read more]
